American Bison are an iconic staple of Yellowstone National Park. Once reduced to fewer than 25 animals, they now roam the park by the thousands ranging from 3500-6000 Bison, helping shape one of the world's most remarkable wild ecosystems.
 
Lamar Valley was once home to the historic Lamar Buffalo Ranch, where conservationists helped restore Yellowstone's bison population after they were nearly exterminated in the late 1800s. Bison from the ranch were later used to establish herds across public and tribal lands.
