The Lamar River is fed by two famous Yellowstone streams, Soda Butte Creek and Slough Creek which creates one of the park's healthiest cold water river systems.
Nearly three quarters of the Lamar River lies within Yellowstone National Park, helping protect its exceptionally clean water and diverse wildlife habitat.
The river flows through the heart of Lamar Valley, often called "America's Serengeti" because of its extraordinary concentration of wildlife. We regularly see bison, pronghorn, elk, grizzly bears, black bears, coyotes, fox, and moose in this spectacular valley.
